JOY MARGARET MAKANDA Business woman, Counselor,Church Leader, & Gospel Singer

I am Joy Margaret Makanda, wife to Mugambi, a medical technologist by profession. I am a
businesswoman, counselor, church leader, and gospel singer. You can find me on all media platforms
under the name Joy Mugambi, and I manage my business and career under the name Margaret
Makanda. I am the Director of Emmanuel Laboratory Supplies Kenya, a company founded in 2015 and
operational since 2019. We add value to research institutions, medical learning institutions, and hospitals
by supplying a wide range of hospital equipment, reagents, and consumables—making us a one-stop
shop for our clients.

We achieve this through importing, buying locally, partnering with other distributors, and most
interestingly, we have ventured into manufacturing many medical reagents ourselves. Some of the
products we manufacture include acetone, Lugol’s iodine, crystal violet, and detergents like bleach
(sodium hypochlorite in both colored and white varieties), surgical spirit, hand wash soap, sanitizer, and
more. We are looking forward to becoming one of the leading manufacturing companies in this field.
Additionally, for consumables like pregnancy kits and malaria test kits, we are in advanced talks with a
company in China that is interested in collaborating with us to establish a manufacturing plant in Kenya.
Currently, there is no such facility in the country. Our clients include hospitals across the nation, such as
Penda Medical Centre, which has 45 branches in Nairobi, several Catholic dispensaries like Kibwezi, and
government institutions such as Chemilili Sugar Company and the Ministry of Fisheries.

Our vision is to be among the top leading distribution companies in Kenya and globally. To achieve this,
Joy Mugambi serves as the brand ambassador for Emmanuel Laboratory Supplies Ltd. Through her
music invitations to various events, she takes time to talk about the company. Additionally, through her
media engagements—including programs like Marriage Counseling Programs, Sing with Joy, and
Foundation for Children Born Out of Wedlock—the company partners with her to reach out to the less
advantaged in society. We are involved in community outreach, visiting orphan homes such as Christ
Our Refuge in Mwihoko, counseling boys and girls on puberty, and providing sanitary towels. We also
visit the elderly, share fun stories, and play with them. During these visits, we offer free medical
check-ups for conditions like hypertension and diabetes. Additionally, we train the community on how
to make bleach for home use to brighten clothes and kill germs, helping them maintain a healthy
environment. We also offer training for commercial purposes, helping people earn a living through the
sale of such products.
